Music is a universal language that can be produced by anyone and enjoyed by everyone. I just love to relish the infectious rhythms and beats that my ears so effortlessly devour and that make me want to dance and shake my body, even though I can’t dance well. When I listen to music, I don’t necessarily pay attention to the lyrical content but it does matter. For instance, if I am listening to a certain hip hop song and all I hear is a profusion of profanities and obscenities, it turns me off completely. It feels as if I’m being demoralized and to be quite frank it utterly disturbing.
On the other hand, I listen to songs in various languages such as: Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and Thai. Though I am not fluent in those languages, I enjoy the songs just as much as or even more than songs written in my native language. I don’t know why. I guess I really do love languages and the fact that I can experience a little bit of their culture and language through their music.
